Hi, my name is Yong Wern Jie and I am a a first-year student pursuing Computer Science in Data Engineering degree at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). I will choose this degree because I am very interested in this field and all the knowledge that I would need to learn in this field. Besides, I was also attracted by the salary of this field and I wish that I could grasp all the knowledge within and outside my degree about the data science field that can be used in my future career. Other than that, I was a boy that extremely interested in digital stuff which lead me to the computer science field at this age.

Education

Primary School: SJK(C)PULAI

Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Pulai, or abbreviated as SJK(C) Pulai, is a Chinese national-type school located in Kangkar Pulai. The school offers courses for early childhood education, primary education, and special education.

Secondary School: SMK SERI PULAI PERDANA

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Pulai Perdana, or abbreviated as SMK Seri Pulai Perdana, is a national secondary school located in Taman Sri Pulai Perdana. SMK Seri Pulai Perdana offers fields based on Pure Science, Accounting, Commerce and Art Education for upper secondary level, while Technical, Commerce and Home Economics fields are offered for lower secondary level.

Foundation: UTM SPACE (Physical Science)

The School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE UTM) is one of the schools in UTM that offers and performs teaching and learning activities for UTM academic programmes such as UTM Foundation, UTM Diploma, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) and International Degree Programmes (IDP), which have been accredited by MQA and/or professional bodies under the Public University Private Wing (PUPW) initiative. These programs are not listed under the Malaysian UPU system and are delivered both full-time or part-time.

SPACE UTM is headed by a Chair and reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and Internationalisation (DVCAA) of UTM. It is governed by the University Senate and complies to all regulations set forth by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) and/or relevant professional bodies.

Degree: Bachelor of Computer Science (Data Engineering)

The Bachelor of Computer Science (Data Engineering) is offered on a full-time basis. The full-time programme is offered only at the UTM Main Campus in Johor Bahru. The duration of study for the full-time programme is subjected to the student’s entry qualifications and lasts between four (4) years to a maximum of six (6) years.

The programme is offered on full-time basis and is based on a 2-Semester per academic session. Generally, students are expected to undertake courses equivalent to between fourteen (14) to eighteen (18) credit hours per semester. Assessment is based on courseworks and final examinations given throughout the semester.

I am a tea barista there after graduating from secondary school while waiting for my SPM result. I resigned from my position as I need to continue pursuing my foundation degree in UTM SPACE.

U1 Education Hub

Position: Parttime Tutor

I am a part-time tutor there. The main focus is teaching secondary students mathematics courses. I am also teaching the languages such as Malay and English and mathematics courses for primary students.
